Teri Derr

"A rockin', soulful passionate sound; she packs a powerful punch from that pint size frame..." Teri is a native of Seattle, well-known for her tasteful phrasing, and beautiful, powerful voice. She's been building experience as a lead vocalist since high school. After a few years on the road singing in clubs throughout the United States, she came home and received a scholarship in the Jazz vocal program at Cornish College of the Arts, where she spent the next years studying with Gary Peacock, Joni Metcalf, Julian Priester, and many other talents. Since then, she's been in several bands, mostly performing in Washington and Oregon. Teri is skilled in everything from Jazz to Motown and even spent time in the gospel scene where she met national country star Michael Peterson. She recorded backups with him on his gospel album. After that, Teri also worked with local band, Blues Therapy. When she's not singing with Miles From Chicago, she has her own Teri Derr Band, also seen at many of the local venues including the Bite of Seattle, The Sky Church at EMP, The Port Townsend Festival, and the Alaska Folk and Blues Festival. Hear samples of her new CD of originals, Don't lose Heart, at TeriDerr.com.
